MLMUPC claims 30 families disputed in sugar cane investment reached solutions

As of Oct. 10, 2017, the Ministry of Land Management Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC) has resolved to end land conflicts for 30 families, among hundreds of families affected by sugar cane investment in 4 provinces. This progress result of closed case for 17 families living in Koh Kong and 13 families in Preah Vihear province, came after the Ministry promulgated and created working groups to seeking solution on cases relating to disputed economic land concession (ELC) for sugar cane plantation for exportation in Koh Kong, Kompong Speu, Preah Vihear, and Oddar Meanchey provinces on 18th September 2017.

 

A press release stated that, MLMUPC pursue further solution for the remaining 20 families in Koh Kong and Preah Vihear provinces. MLMUPC agreed to solve 171 families which have not been solved concerning to complainst lodged at EU baed on the agreed principles made with the company in 2015, in total land size of 300 Hectares, by which each family will granted 1.50 Hectares in Koh Kong province. MLMUPC will examine request made by 333 families in Koh Kong, Kompong Speu, Preah Vihear provinces. MLMUPC has dismissed 441 families in Koh Kong and Preah Vihear provinces who failed to fulfill the information. 

 

Commitment to the progress of the solutions to the disputed ELC for sugar cane investment; EU, NGOs, Line Ministries, and relevant institutions continue to cooperate in order to entirely close the remaining disputed cases between the people and the sugar cane plantation companies in Koh Kong, Kompong Speu, and Preah Vihear provinces.

Pi Thnou Community Follow Up Last Year Petition at MLMUPC

15 August 2017, More than 30 representatives of Pi Thnou Community from Kratie province has gathering and following up their petitions at the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction which submitted since 15 August 2016 for seeking a solution on land dispute between community with Chinese company UBE since 2012. The representative from MLMUPC responded that "at early September 2017 the authority from land ministry will mission to the Pi Thnou Community for the solution.

Group 32 of Borei Keila Protest at City Hall for Compensate from Phan Imex Company

14 August 2017, Borei Keily's representative gathering at Phnom Penh City Hall for protesting and demanding the Phan Imex Co Ltd should pay compensate reasonably after signed contract with the city hall since 5 years ago. The family of Group 32 among 385 families who listed in development policy of government claims that they did not receive any compensate from the company. The community will file a complaints to the court when Ms. Suy Siphan ignored the right solution.

HRTF meet EC for supporting SOS

14 August 2017, Housing Rights Task Force (HRTF) conducted a meeting with its partner, Equitable Cambodia for seeking a resolution on Land Title SOS community. As the result, the SOS plan writing a letter to Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction for meeting and seeking intervention from the Minister, H.E. Chea Sophara, fasten the land title process in SOS community. SOS will submits a letter to Ministry of Economic and Finance for tax exemption on their land which the owner should pay annually.

Court Upholds Wrongful Verdicts Against Housing Rights Defenders in Cambodia

The Court of Appeal in Phnom Penh today upheld the wrongful verdicts against ten women housing rights activists and a monk for their participation in peaceful protests. Civil Rights Defenders has been monitoring the situation in Cambodia since the 11 activists were arrested over three days back in November 2014.
